México aparece en el mapa genético internacional en 1943 con la creación del Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maiz y Trigo (CIMMYT) financiada por la Fundación Rockefeller y dirigida por Norman Borlaug, actor central en la revolución verde. Ese mismo año, el himno nacional mexicano es oficializado por Manuel Ávila Camacho normando así el uso de este símbolo de identidad que, desde entonces, ha sido formalizado y reglamentado varias veces. La variedad de semillas y disponibilidad de estas disminuyó considerablemente durante el transcurso del siglo XX. Para 1970 no quedaban más que unas cuantas doscenas de los centenares de variantes que había en la década de los 40’s. Curiosamente, fue en 1970 cuando se otorgó el premio Nobel de la Paz a Norman Borlaug por contribuír a la reducción del hambre en el mundo con sus revolución verde. NORM, outraging DNA

Mexico appears in the international genetic scene in 1943 with the creation of the International Center for the Study of Maiz and Wheath (CIMMYT), an organization financed by the Rockefeller foundation and directed by Norma Borlaug, a central actor in the green revolution. That same year the Mexican anthem became official by decree of the then president Manuel Ávila Camacho, norming this way its use as a national identity symbol. Since then it has undergone many transformations. The variety and disponibility of seeds has diminished drastically throughout the twentieth century. By 1970 there were no more than a couple dozen varieties, an astonishing number if compared to the hundreds that existed in the 1940’s. Interestingly, it was in 1970 when Norman Borlaug recived the Peace Nobel Prize for his contribution in diminishing famine in the world thanks to his green revolution. The genetic discourse has deconstructed life and its individuals to its minimum expression: data. Genomes are presented as trains of letters that norm our lives and that of our descendants in a chanting hymn of information.
